Members Update March 14, 2020

Brothers and Sisters,

On March 12, 2020 the government of British Columbia is advising that they are discouraging "all travel" outside of Canada due to the growing COVID-19 outbreak. This includes travel to the United States and Mexico. For those already outside of Canada, it would be best to consider returning home for the threat posted today of additional boarder closings and flight cancellations. Additionally, they announced that anyone that chooses to travel outside of Canada must stay home from work or school for 14 days upon their return to the province.

Anyone that chooses to travel outside of the country and is required to self-isolate may not be eligible for EI or any other assistance, including from this Union, as it was the decision of the individual to ignore the travel advisory.

It is the advice of Local 276 to cancel any plans for travel outside of Canada to help prevent the spread of the virus. For more information please see the link below from the BC Center of Disease Control.

Please do you part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and hopefully we can minimize the impact that the virus has here in British Columbia. If you are symptomatic, please stay home from work until your symptoms have stopped.

Unfortunately, our staff were exposed to someone late last week who is being tested for COVID-19, so for the safety of everyone, our office will be closed to the public until further notice. Please call or email us with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
