How Does COVID-19 Affect my Membership
We are receiving quite a few calls at the office on different subjects, many of them are on how dues and medical work when someone is laid off or is self Isolating due to COVID-19.
We have put together a list of the most commonly asked question.

Questions:
What happens with my Union dues while I am unemployed?
- Once the Union has been notified, we can change your status accordingly.
- Anyone who has worked less than 24 hours in a month, will only be required to pay $36.50 of out of work dues.
- It is the responsibility of the member to make sure their dues are payed up when they are not working.
- Your medical coverage will continue as long as you have hours in your “hour bank”. Most people that have been working full time, up until this point have a medical hour bank built up, so your medical is still being covered as you are unemployed and paying dues.
- If you use up your medical bank you can continue your medical by self paying for up to one year. Invoices will be sent via email.
- If you decide not to self pay you will be taken off medical and will need to have 260 hours recorded in our office before being reinstated, approximately 3 months. You will also need to complete new medical forms.
- As of right now, Camosun collage and RCABC are now closed to the public and the International Training Authority (ITA) has decided classes will continue in BC through remote education where possible. The Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) is looking closely at this new online learning to ensure a high level of education continues to be provided.
- Rick Carter is currently working from home but can be contacted through email if you have any questions on up coming classes or if you just have any general concerns.
- All Union classes and training will be postponed until further notice.
